‘Scoring King’ Embiid, the first MVP honor in his life ‘5 consecutive non-Americans’
American Professional Basketball (NBA) Philadelphia 76ers Center Joel Embiid (29) has been named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the 2022-23 season.
The NBA Secretariat announced the results of the MVP voting for the 2022-23 season on the 3rd (hereinafter Korean time). The result is Embiid’s first award. It is the first Philadelphia player since Allen Iverson in 22 years.
Embiid received 1st place votes from 73 out of 100 voters, 2nd place votes from 25 people, and 3rd place votes from 2 people, and took first place with a total score of 915 points.
Embiid, who had no relationship with the MVP, overtook Nicola Jokic (Denver Nuggets, 674 points) and Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee Bucks, 606 points) in this vote to rise to first place.
Embiid averaged 33.1 points, 10.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.7 blocked shots in 66 games this season. His 33.1 points is a league-leading record.
Previously, Embiid gave Jokic MVP even after ranking first in the scoring category with an average of 30.6 points per game last season, but this season has resolved that. 크크크벳
Following Embiid, Jokic, and Antetokounmpo, Jayson Tatum (Boston Celtics) ranked fourth with 280 points, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Oklahoma City Thunder) ranked fifth with 46 points.
As a result, in the NBA, a non-American player was named MVP for five consecutive seasons. Antetokounmpo and Jokic are from Greece and Serbia, respectively.
