Levy has a plan…Tottenham chairman “Kane has a buy-back clause” shock revelation
Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy had a plan. A buy-back clause has been confirmed to bring Harry Kane back to Tottenham after his move to Bayern Munich.
“Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has revealed that the club has a buy-back clause to bring Harry Kane back from Bayern Munich,” global soccer publication GOAL reported on Tuesday (June 20).
Kane, a key attacker for the England national team and a world-class forward, left Tottenham on Aug. 12 to join German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich. According to reports from local media in Germany and England, the transfer fee is said to be up to £120 million.
Kane, who began playing for Tottenham in 2004, including as a youth player, has scored 280 goals and provided 64 assists in 435 first-team appearances, making him the most prolific goal scorer in the club’s history. A self-proclaimed Tottenham legend, Kane has decided to part ways with the club he spent 19 years with to pursue a title challenge.
Kane’s departure to Munich was met with disappointment by many Premier League fans. Aside from the fact that they won’t see him on the Premier League stage anymore, they would have loved to see him surpass England legend Alan Shearer as the all-time Premier League goalscorer.
Kane, who has scored 280 goals and provided 64 assists in 435 first-team appearances for Tottenham, is the most prolific goalscorer in the club’s history, and he is also second on the Premier League’s all-time goalscoring list with a whopping 213 in the league. The top spot is held by Shearer, who has 260 goals.
Born in 1993, Kane is still only 30 years old and was expected to break Shearer’s record if he stayed at Spurs, but his move to Munich put his chances of doing so in doubt.
It was then that Levy himself said he had written a “buy-back clause” into his contract that would allow his former club to bring the player back for a certain transfer fee, confirming that Kane could one day return to Tottenham and the Premier League.
According to the outlet, the comments were made during a Tottenham meeting with fans on April 19. Spurs organized the event, which featured a panel of club officials, including head coach Enzi Postecoglou and chairman Levy, to talk to fans. Men’s soccer team captain Son Heung-min was also on the panel.
This is the first Tottenham fan meeting since 2017, when Levy was joined by manager Mauricio Pochettino and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. Yoris is still at Tottenham, but he handed over the captain’s armband to Son Heung-min, so Son was able to attend the event.
Levy then surprised fans by saying that “there is a buy-back clause” for Kane, meaning that if all parties agree, Kane, who signed a four-year deal with Munich, could return to Spurs in 2027.
It’s not known how much the buy-back would be, but if Munich triggered the buy-back clause in the final year of his contract, Kane could be back in a Tottenham shirt in the 2026/27 Premier League season. Kane will be 33 years old at that point, so if he can keep his form up, he could be in line to break Shearer’s record for Premier League goals.
Meanwhile, Tottenham, who lost the world-class striker who scored 30 league goals last season, have coalesced around Postecoglou and Son Heung-min to erase the memory of Kane.
After a disappointing year last season, when they finished eighth in the league, Tottenham have started the 2023/24 campaign unbeaten in five Premier League games, winning four and drawing one, and sitting second in the league. Even without Kane, they’ve scored 13 goals through the fifth round of the league, their fifth consecutive multi-goal game 온라인바카라.
Tottenham’s new captain, Son Heung-min, came off the bench to score a hat-trick in a 5-2 win over Burnley in the fourth round of the league on Sept. 2, and Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino scored a goal and an assist in stoppage time to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 win at Sheffield United in the fifth round of the league on Sept. 16, so far, the existing players have been successful in filling Kane’s shoes.
