Kane finally leaves!…Munich, Tottenham complete ‘agreement’ → transfer fee ‘over €100m’
Bayern Munich have finally reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur.
This summer’s transfer market is as active as ever. Lionel Messi, the GOAT, left Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for Inter Miami and was followed by a host of Barcelona legends, including Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba. Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, Riyad Mahrez, and many other world-class players headed to Saudi Arabia, while Declan Rice joined Arsenal and Jude Bellingham donned the colors of Real.
More interestingly, there are still some surprising transfers to come. Two players stand out. PSG’s Kylian Mbappe and Tottenham Hotspur’s Kane. Mbappe has been linked with Real, while Kane is pushing for a move to Bayern Munich.
Kane is ‘arguably’ the best striker of the 2010s. He’s been compared to the likes of Benzema, Robert Lewandowski, and Luis Suarez, but it’s hard to argue that he’s inferior to them in terms of ability and individual career. He’s a living legend at Tottenham and leads the team in goals every season. At his peak, he formed one of the best attacking combinations in the world with Son Heung-min, Christian Eriksen, and Dele Alli. In 2022-23, when the rest of Spurs’ offense struggled, Kane was still able to do his job, scoring 30 league goals.
However, his future at Tottenham is unclear. He’s accomplished almost everything he could in his career, but he’s never won a title. In his 10 years at Spurs, Kane hasn’t lifted a single major trophy. It was even teased that winning the Audi Cup, an eventful match, was his only trophy of his career.
At first, it was fine. At his young age, Kane believed the trophies would come naturally over time. But he was sorely mistaken. For over a decade, the only trophy he lifted was the Audi Cup, an eventuality. This was a “big” tease for him.
Eventually, a transfer was pushed through. Impatient, Kane turned his attention to advancing his career at a club. In fact, he contacted Manchester City in the summer of 2021 and negotiations made progress. However, chairman Daniel Levy’s stubborn attitude stalled the deal. He demanded a huge fee for Kane, and City balked. In the end, the deal never materialized.
The interest from big clubs continued. During the 2022-23 season, Manchester United, Newcastle United, PSG, and Real Madrid emerged as possible destinations.
United were the favorites. With no resources to spend after letting Cristiano Ronaldo go, United saw Kane as the perfect fit. With only one year left on his contract, it was time for Tottenham to consider selling Kane, and they too were open to a move. However, Levy was adamant that he would not sell his ace to a rival in the same league, and United realized that they would not be able to convince Spurs, so they withdrew their interest in Kane.
Then came Real, who were looking to fill the void left by Karim Benzema’s sudden departure to Saudi Arabia. Real, with their deep pockets, didn’t have to worry about money, and Kane wanted to join them. But no matter how much money they had, they couldn’t match Levy’s asking price, and so they dropped out of the race.
After United and Real left, Munich were mentioned as a possible destination. Of course, like United and Real, the Bavarians were unable to make progress in negotiations. However, they have not given up. Florian Plettenberg, a reporter for Germany’s Sky Sports, wrote on social media, “Even former chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge was directly involved in the deal. Munich’s main goal is to sign Kane!”.
Thomas Tuchel has even held talks with Kane. According to Christian Falk of the German publication Bild, Tuchel met with Kane at his home in London to discuss the transfer.
Of course, Tottenham’s top priority is to keep Kane. They rejected all of Munich’s offers and even offered Kane a new contract. However, Kane refused to accept the offer. “Kane has no intention of accepting Tottenham’s offer right now and will not sign a new contract with Spurs while the transfer window remains open,” according to the British publication The Guardian.
After confirming Kane’s desire to leave, Munich became more aggressive and continued to put pressure on Spurs. Munich officials publicly expressed their interest in Kane, further heating up the transfer speculation. CEO Jan Christian Dresden directly mentioned Kane’s name. According to European soccer transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, he said, “It’s no longer a secret that we are interested in signing Kane. Everything that Uli Hoeness said is correct.” Munich’s honorary chairman, Uli Hoeness, has said that Kane has given clear signals that he wants a move and that talks with his family have gone well. 스포츠토토
Munich have continued to schedule meetings with Tottenham in an attempt to make progress in the negotiations. According to European soccer transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, Munich were scheduled to meet with Spurs for a third time in July.
This was rescheduled. It was due to Levy’s personal reasons. However, Munich officials weren’t upset at all and accepted Tottenham’s request. They realized that no matter what happened, it wouldn’t interfere with their recruitment plans.
Munich then made an additional offer. It wasn’t quite the £100 million that Levy was asking for, but it was a staggering €100 million ($167.8 billion). But Tottenham rejected it. The Telegraph reported that “Levy ignored the deadline set by Munich. Munich had set a deadline of midnight on Friday, but Levy refused to accept their offer.”
But Munich didn’t give up. They upped the ante and made another offer. With the start of the English Premier League (EPL) just around the corner and the German Super Cup on the horizon, the Bavarians hoped to finalize the deal by then.
Munich’s persistence paid off. Tottenham had agreed to terms. David Onstein of The Athletic reported on Tuesday that “Munich have reached an agreement with Tottenham for the signing of Kane. The deal is worth more than €100 million.”
