Besides the ‘overwhelming’ Otani, Akuña Jr. is on par with… Kim Ha Sung, how awesome is that?

In the entire major leagues, only Ohtani is better than Kim.

Kim has been on a “crazy run” in the second half of the season. It’s not just American pundits and media who are raving about him, but also his teammates. One of the San Diego Padres’ superstars, Tatis Jr. gave Kim a thumbs up, calling him “the best player in the game right now.”

Against the Colorado Rockies on March 3 (KST), Kim went 4-for-4 with a home run and two walks. The home run was a leadoff shot in the first inning. He already has 15 home runs. He has 22 stolen bases. His batting average, which was in the low-to-mid 20s, is now 2-for-8. Three more to go.

Beyond individual performance, there’s a metric that can be used to assess a player’s impact on a team. This is Wins Above Replacement (WAR).

Kim has a WAR of 5.3. WAR quantifies how many more wins a player brings to the team compared to other alternatives. In simple terms, this means that Kim single-handedly added 5.3 wins to San Diego this season. It’s a very reliable metric for evaluating players.

Kim is tied for second in the majors in WAR this season. In the National League, he’s tied for first. The only other National League player with a 5.3 WAR is Atlanta Braves star Ronald Acuña Jr.

The only player with a higher WAR than Kim is, as you might expect, the cartoonish Ohtani (LA Angels). His WAR is a whopping 7.9. Anything over 5.0 is considered great, but Ohtani’s monster performance at both the plate and at the plate makes him an “overachiever. These are the only three players in the entire major leagues with a 5.0 WAR, so you can see how good Kim is playing baseball 메이저놀이터.

Not including Ohtani, Acuña Jr. is batting .335 with 25 home runs, 64 RBIs, and 51 stolen bases this season. It’s easy to compare him to an MVP-caliber player with such stellar numbers. Obviously, his individual numbers don’t compare to Acuña Jr.’s, but Kim has a huge weapon in his arsenal: defense.
